judgement against bankrupt person/business

Help! I went to small claims court 9 months ago and was awarded a judgement of $3,000 against a contractor who did not complete a job as paid, who did poor work and who damaged several items in my house (and in court, even admitted to being negligent leading to the damage). He never paid any of the judgement and (surprise!) filed for bankruptcy on 10/16/05. The strange thing is that the Chapter 7 notice states his name, dba Company X. My judgement is against his name, dba Company Y.

Since the Chapter 7 notification states "there does not appear to be any property available for the trustee to pay creditors", is there any hope?

Sounds like you are out of luck. I don't believe the Company X / Company Y is the real issue. It is his personal bankruptcy regardless of how many dbas he has. A dba is really just an alias.

You can attend the meeting of creditors and pose questions. Call the Trustee for the meeting date.

Maybe you could point this out to the trustee and ask the question.
