judgment and attachment

What is the name of your state? Nevada

In June of 2007, I started trying to clean up my credit reports by disputing several charges. within 2 weeks I was contacted by an "attorney" stating that I owed $1900 on a credit card debt from April 2004. I respopnded and cc'd the credit bureau requesting validation of the debt. There was no response from the cresitor within the mandated time, so the info was removed. About a month later, I received notification that I was being sued and that I had to file an answer. I filed the answer stating that I was requesting validation of the debt.
The creditor then sent me a copy of the last statement on the account with a balance of about $500. I told him that I wasn;t even sure if the debt was mine, but I was willing to pay the amount he had validated ($500) just to resolve the issue. He declined.

I then received a copy of some additional papers he filed with the court. There were no dates or instructions of any kind.

After that, nothing. This was about 4 months ago. Today, my bank account is drained and the contact number is for this creditor. I cannot find any judgments or attachements on file with the county, district, or justice courts regarding this.

I was out of the country for about a month, but there are other people living in my home that would have received any summons or documents had they been sent.

From what I have seen online, I can file an exemption for 75% of my disposable income and notify the bank, as well as go to the courthouse on Monday and request a copy of the judgment.

but my questions are;

1) Should I file the exemption if I am still disputing the debt and believe it is past the SOL?
2) Did I screw up by offering to pay them anything?
3) Can I file for vacation of judgment since I was not properly served?

I am planning on hiring an attorney to assist (if I can afford it), but would like to know if anyone has any advice for me.
