Landlord debt on credit report

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Texas

I need help. I'm trying to get a new apartment and I can't because on my credit report I have Landlord Dept back in June 2001. I have rented since then and didn't understand why this was coming up. I called the law office that is now handling that and they said it was from the apartments that I lived in with my ex-husband. I explained to him that I had broken the lease, talked to the apartment personnel and had left my husband back in dec. 00. he then explained to me that my name was never taken off the lease. Here's some more background. When I left him he moved to a bigger apartment in the same apartment complex. What can I do to get rid of this? I've already asked for a copy of the file..
