Law Office calling my Father

I live in New Jersey. A law office called my dad in Nebraska. I don't know what debt they want to collect. I don't know how they got his number either. How can I stop them from calling him?

Thanks!

If they are calling him about a valid debt that HE owes... the only thing he can do is to send them a 'cease and desist' letter by certified RRR. However, this process often results in the filing of a lawsuit..... so he would have to consider that also.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

I'm assuming the debt is your's and they're trying to get information about you from him? I've been told you can try sending a letter to them called a limited cease and desist. Actually, if it is your debt and they are calling him, he has the right to tell them to stop calling him and if they don't, he can sue for harrassment. If the debt is yours, he doesn't owe them anything, including talking to them on the phone. He can tell them not to call him again and hang up the phone. If they call back, he can press charges.

Just my two cents.

If that is the case, the 3rd party debt collector is NOT in violation.

You have been told wrong. There is no such thing as a NON-debtor 'cease and desist' in this case.

Wrong on BOTH counts. If this is a 3rd party debt collector AND if this is the OP's debt, they can call 'dad' in attempting to locate the OP. Also, their contacting dad is NOT harassment.

Wrong again.

Presumably, THAT is correct.
