Laws Regarding collections for past due storage account

What is the name of your state? KY

I am trying to find out what actions I can and should take in collecting on a past due storage account, and How I go about selling ones personal items in order to collect money owed and clear the space for these accounts.

We are a moving and storage company and have several accounts that are outstanding for years! I cant imagine how these accounts were overlooked for so long. I am now in the position to clear these accounts up and need to know my legal standings to do so. Any and all info you can give me, or direction you can lead me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Shell

Hire an attorney. You should have done this when you started the business. There is no way someone can review all the applicable laws and tell you everything you need to know in an online forum.

If you think racer was rude you should reread your last post. The name of this forum is FreeAdvice. That means not only are you getting the advice for free, but the posters here are giving it for free. Copping an attitude will not get people sympathetic to your problem.

Your legal answer is that the first thing that has to be looked at is the storage contract these people agreed to.

And yes, sure you can hire a lawyer. Just pick up the yellow pages and look under L. Just takes money.

I am getting so sick of people over-reacting with the "You're rude!!!" crap. It reminds of four year olds who cry because they're told they can't have a cookie.

Hire an attorney. How is this rude? He's saying this is complicated enough to warrant having professional help. If you don't want to do that fine, but don't stick your lip out and pout because you're being told you should.

You should have done this when you started the business. How is this rude? Whatever methods you would use in case of delinquent customers is something that should have been part of the original business plan. It's a simple fact. But he's being rude??

There is no way someone can review all the applicable laws and tell you everything you need to know in an online forum. How is this rude? You're simply being told that he believes you require a level of help that can't be provided within a venue such as this.

And what's with the "grrrr" crap? Grrr? As in growling? Is that supposed to be cute?? My God, grow up.

Dear Dispatch Jerky,

Perhaps you should not have accepted a job that you are obviously incapable and incompetent of doing.

PS. Now THAT was rude!!! See the difference???

And I didn't see that as rude...brutally honest maybe, but not rude

As much as I hate to admit it, there are times I miss the replies that were at one time, popular and spewed forth as if without any effort and in an unlimited mix of colorful styles,,,, yes, IAAL. He did have a talent for dealing with the easily offended OP and their fruitless attempt to stage a counter attack.

I know, I know, he got way out of hand, but people didn't post how the rest of us are rude in our replies when they had the IAAL rude to complain about. There was not much interpretation necessary when he was in the "no time for stupidity" zone,,, His rude was certainly unmistakable and freely distributed I might add.

But I don't believe the bridge between IAAL and MM was simply burned, it was blown into little pieces in a lengthy explosion that hasn't seen the dust settle yet. Unfortunately for IAAL, he didn't realize that using too much explosives will get yourself blown to little pieces as well.

There were just so many times that I thought to myself, "That person really did have that coming" and it wasn't necessary for anyone else to decide to post what someone needed to hear and be concerned that Mary would have to receive a whiny email from someone with a hurt ego...

I kind of miss the contest too,,,,,,

Oh, and I guess the bolded information above was not important enough to put in your first post. Tell the owner to hire an attorney then. If the owner can't afford an attorney, he can't afford the business.

If you want rude you got it. You look like a monkey and smell like one too.
