Question

Is it legal to transfer a title in the event of a lawsuit?

My boyfriend and I live in FL and bought a sailboat together two years ago, the boat is in his name. He got into credit card trouble six years due to a failing business and just found out they plan to sue. Can he transfer the title over to me, since we both paid for the boat, to protect from them taking the boat in case they win a judgment against him? Is that illegal?

was is a corporate or personal card? How much was owed? When was actual last contact with card co?

As some might tell you I hate credit cards, but if the debt is payable consider that as an option.

Is the boat paid for and what's it worth - compared to what you owe?

the boat

it was a personal card, he owes about $15,000, last contact was two years ago, the blue book on the boat is probably about $6000 but we've put much more than that into the boat, and it's paid for. Since we are not married and FL doesn't recognize common law, I'm wondering if he "sells" the boat to me, I pay the taxes on it, it's in my name, it might keep us from losing the boat?
