What is the name of your state? Massachusetts

long story, short...

I used a dumpster company when cleaning out some basements, I failed to pay the dumpster company the debt I owed them. They now want to place liens on the homeowners houses. Can they do this legally? I have contacted them to try and settle the debt but they state they want to place liens on the homeowners houses.
