Loan loan for for family member in my name

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California - I recently took out a 5K loan for my nephiew. He used 3k for a used car (he had to give up the one he was paying on) and he used 2K to file bankrupcy. I told him he is responsible for the payments and so far he has made two. I will be writing up a form indicating why I got the loan and that he is responsible for the payments. i am wondering If i should put the pink slip of the car in my name or should I keep it in his. If I put it in my name, would I be responsible for his driving. Can I put a lean on it. I know that this may turn in to a bad deal and he may cheat me out of the entire loan. I may end up paying for it myself. I want to protect myself and my interest as much as I can. What is the right thing for me to do here?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
