Marriage,divorce and debt collections

What is the name of your state? Ohio

My wife was contacted by NCO about an old account. Supposedly, according to the person at NCO, the original creditor was Associate National Bank. We read over our credit reports from Experian and Trans Union and did not see that creditor listed there. There are 2 other collection agencies (Arrow and National Acceptance) who have contacted her about other debts as well. What happened was her ex maxed out all her credit cards then left the state. The divorce decree specifically states that he is responsible for all debts arising from the marriage, but the collectors don't want to take action against him, in spite of my willingness to give them his address. What's your advice?

The creditors are not going to go after your wife's ex. The divorce decree means nothing to them. Your wife can take her ex to court for being in violation of the decree, but she is still going to be responsible for this debt in the eyes of the creditor.

Just an FYI....Associates is now under CitiBank, so you may want to check the report to see if that is being listed. Do a DV letter to the collection agency.
