| Maryland Home Improvement Commission and judgemen I am from Maryland. If a contractor has a judgement against him from civil court and is trying to make payments on it to the homeowner, can a homeowner refuse those payments and go straight to the MHIC guaranty fund for payment in full instead? I know the MHIC guaranty fund will pay a homeowner if a judgment is found against the contractor, but this contractor is trying to take responsibility for the repayment on his own but just can't pay it all in full and would like to make $1,000/month payments on a $10,000 judgment. Not sure what the bylaws of the MHIC are and was hoping someone here would no how it works, if they can go to MHIC and how much longer that would take. |
