michigan stature of limitaions??

Michigan stature of limitations is 6 years.. can that restart if a payment has been made?
DH had an old old collection for 10,000.. When they called him he set up payment arrangements of 100 a month.. they are not reporting to any agency.. We are wondering did we restart the clock? if he stops payment can they sue.. what about asking for a validation while making payments?
any knowledge on michigans' laws would me much appreciated..
