Question

Minimum payments on credit card

What is the name of your state? NJ

Ok, my sister lives in NJ and owes her bank an approximate sum of $30.000, which she is paying off as we speak by minimum payments. In her case minimum payments are about $300 something / month. She has a 0% interest on her credit card, and, in order to avoid shift to an interest rate of at least 21%, she has to keep paying them this money every month. I told her she could pay less than that (lets say $100) every month and she will still keep her credit record ok, since bank won’t be able to say that she is not paying, even though payments would be less than their “designated” minimum. My question is – is it possible for her to pay less, according to what I have told her, or its necessary to continue paying as she is paying now in order to avoid interest switch to 21%?
Thanks

If she pays less than agreed, that will be reported to the credit bureaus. She may also incur a defaulted interest rate (kiss the 0% and even 21%goodbye) and fees. The companies may even cancel the card and demand payment in full.

She agreed to the minimum payments and terms when she accepted and used the credit cards. Read the cardholder agreement.

Now, she may be able to call the credit card companies and ask for a lower minimum payment based on her current situation. Some may comply, but they don't have to.
