KS - filed chapter 7 seven years ago. Still making mortgage payments. Credit report shows mortgage was part of bankruptcy. Mortgage company is not cooperating with PMI. When we try to talk to them they say they are not trying to collect a debt and we have to talk to their bankruptcy department. What can happen if we stop paying, save our money and try to get a new loan through our current bank?

If you stop paying they can and will foreclose...and they would likely do it very rapidly. You are certainly free to attempt to refinance the mortgage but you should not stop paying in the meantime.
