new house, old debtWhat is the name of your state? New York I want to buy my first home. I have unpaid credit card debt from 13 years ago and they're still sending me letters. Can the collection agencies put a lien on my new home? I never owned anything till now. |

| In order to put a lien on your home, they must first get a judgment. In order to get a jugement, they must sue you. You can certainly use the statute of limitations as a defense, which means that they would not win in court.
