No one lives here by that name, quit calling

What is the name of your state? tx

I have been called by NCO for several weeks now and they ask for "Annette". I keep telling them no one by that name lives here and they hang up. I have even called them back and asked be removed from call list and they agree and then keep calling. I cannot get any of them to send me anything in writing or give me an address to send cease and desist to. I really and truly do not owe anyone any money and feel that they are fishing any name that seems close.

Any ideas?

Caller ID number is never a working number but *69 works and I have called them and explained situation. They promise to remove number and I am again called with 48 hours.

Well, of course they are going to let you call THEM back, they want their money. I have been answering calls for a guy named Frank for about 5 years now, wish I had a good answer for you. You might threaten to report them after telling them to stop calling, but my experience is, they could care less, and neither could anyone else, unless they are calling at times outside of the normal business hours, you know, like the middle of the night or something.

Put yourself on the Nation "DO NOT CALL" list and start reporting them.... I've found that telemarketers and bill collectors never stop until you can report them....

Like fairisfair I have been getting calls for a "Norma" for over five years. Yes its annoying but it takes 15 sec to tell them no "Norma' lives here. Some calls stop after I explain some reoccur every month or so. The 15 seconds I spend on the phone is not going to change my life so I just deal with it and tell then "No Norma lives here and we have had this number for six years" Its just not worth the headache and it hasnt altered my life!

The Do Not Call list does not apply to creditors.

Tell them that you would love to pay and then ask what is their name and address so you can send them a check. Send a cease and desist letter.

We have anonymous call blocking. If your number doesn't show up on Caller ID, it doesn't get through to my phone.

That also stops foreign calls (which you may or may not want).

In any event, an answering machine works wonders.

Also, crude and vulgar language ("What are you wearing?" etc.) works wonders if a girl/woman calls.

Of course, if a guy calls (and we all know that all guys are pigs) then they would just love it if you talked dirty to them (if you are female) and some may even love it if you are a male.

Any ideas?
1. You cannot cease and desist someone else's collection.
2. They would not send you anything if they are trying to reach someone else.
3. How do you know the purpose of the call is collections?
4. Everybody owes somebody money. Absolutes are always wrong. Try again.
5. Debtors always lie.
6. Friends and associates of the deadbeat always lie.
7. Family of the deadbeat always lie.
8. The FDCPA protects the CA here. We are authorized to call 3rd parties as often as we like until they tell the truth. At IC System, I know managers that set people for call backs every five minutes all day long if the debtor wasn't there or they didn't answer.
9. The CA will have a few questions to confirm that this isn't the debtor's contact info -- answer them and be done with it.
10. Debtors that owe one creditor owe many more. That is the fact of deadbeats. It sucks when you are the innocent third party. You can handle one series of calls from a CA by answering the questions -- only to have another department of hte same CA calling later for a different account. Or have umpteen other CAs calling.
11. If it is that bad, change your number.

Just curious about #8. How exactly do you determine when 3rd parties are lying? Trust me Frigging Frank doesn't live here.

That's disingenuous!

Definitions of disingenuous on the Web:

* not straightforward or candid; giving a false appearance of frankness; "an ambitious, disingenuous, philistine, and hypocritical operator, who...exemplified...the most disagreeable traits of his time"- David Cannadine; "a disingenuous excuse"

Maybe I am too easy going but as I said before for six years I have got calls for "Norma" whoever she is. I tell them no Nora lives that this address and I have had same number for six years. The call then ends. This happens from once a month to once every three months it varies. The 15 seconds is not altering my life! My suggestion tell them "blank" doesnt live here they say sorry you hang up! There are too many real problems in life to let a 15 second wrong number get to you!
