not informed of garnishment, attorney accumulating fees w/out communicaiton

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
I live in Georgia and had accumulated a nice sum of money owed to my condo home owner's association. A judgment was place on me in Dec 2006. As of May 2007 I made 2 large payments and thought this was paid. the associations accumulated again (yes, I'm the guilty one that wasn't proactively paying them) In June and July of 2008 I asked the condo's management company what the total amount due was. They told me the amount and I paid it. ($3075.00 and my monthly hoa assessment is $210) I was happy to be paid in full! December 12, 2008 I get a friendly reminder from the HOA that I owe $811.24 for hoa's since Sept 1, 2008. I was taking a loan out in January to pay off all debt. Well, January 6, 2009 I get a garnishment on my bank account for $1586! I had no idea what is was for and called the bank. All they could give me was a phone number and a last name. I find out it's the hoa's attorney's and that I owe $4661! After 3+ weeks of arguing with them and trying to get a ledger/statement from either/and both the attorney's and the management company. I see that when I had made payments to the hoa association in 2007 and thought I was paid to date, that the attorney's put that to legal fees, what was left went to hoa's and then there was still a small balance due to hoa's (since they had accumulated some legal fees that I was not aware of and my payment applied to that instead of the hoa).
My question is... the attorney's just let the legal fees keep ticking up and I got NO communication from them or from the hoa that it was still in the hands of legal. Should I not have received any letters from the attorney from the time of August 2007 to January 6, 2009? When I called them on January 7, they finally sent me a letter on the 14th and the 23rd (which btw had 2 different amounts on them)
I would like to settle this and from here on out WILL keep my hoa's up to date.

I find it rather interesting that you place blame for the lack of communication on the attorney. You knew you had been sued, you knew there was an attorney involved and yet you chose to leave the attorney out of the equation when dealing with the judgement.

I also find it interesting that you think this attorney should have worked for free. Who do you think was supposed to be paying the fees for his work? In answer to that rhetorical question ~ you are granted the gracious priviledge of paying those fees.

My one suggestion to you is that once you have satisfied the judgement, please make sure the satisfaction of judgement is filed with the court.
