old bill for a deceased person

A bill was sent to my mother by a law firm which had purchased the debt from another agency, for ambulance/medical services rendered in 1998. This debt, $550.00, was supposedly for amounts not covered by insurance. My mother died November 1998, and all outstanding debts had been paid, as far as we knew. No bills since that time were received. The bill was addressed to my mother. Am I responsible for this bill? If not, what should I do to end this correctly and prevent its occurance again?

You are not personally responsbile.

Just send a letter with a copy of the death certificate and say that the estate has been closed.
