Old medical debt

What is the name of your state? South Dakota.

A month after arriving here in the state of south dakota I had to have emergency surgery.
I had no job. I was visited by a councilor from the county to talk to me about the debt I would owe to the hospital.
The paper work said I had 15 days to reply. The man who came to see me said that was nothing and that I should wait until the county medical official came back with his findings as to whether or not I would get help from the state, seeing as how I had no job.
I listened to this person and as a result I ended up being given a status by the state of being "indegent by design".
I kept in touch with the people I owed money to because I really wanted to take care of the bill, somehow. When my offer to work off the debt was treated with nasty responses, I got mad and said fine, they can just go suck some eggs, I tried to offer a solution and be responsible in some way.

All the medical bills went to a debt collector and since I could do nothing at the time, I had no means to do anything, no job, nothing, I just accepted the judgment against me.

That was 6 plus years ago. Two weeks ago a server came to my door, and handed me some paper work listing what I owed the clinic attached to the hospital. I was rather confused by it since I was under the impression that all the bills attached to the surgery had gone through the court system already. And because I had and still have no way to take care of the debt I owe, I'm confused as to why wait until now to do this.

At the present time I own a very old used trailer. It's value is about $1,200. My job ended about a week ago so at the present time I am jobless. The response date on the paper work is the 9th of this month.
My question is this, can they take my trailer?

I looked up the statutes of limitations and found it's 6 years for medical debt in the state of south Dakota, and I'm still not sure what I should do.
I need some advise.

Thank you,
whitehare
