old possibly paid off debt in Ohio

I have received a collection notice from an auto loan that I had in 1997. This was from a car that got totaled in a car accident. I thought this was paid off and had not received anything until now 2006. I dont think that I owe the debt first off and next I cannot believe that I havent heard anything about this until now. I would think that it is too old to pursue. This has never been on my credit and this Jayhawk Acceptance Corp that the loan was with looks like they themselves have filed bankrupcy and no longer exist. Do I really have to go through back my old bank statements to verify each and every payment first off and then I have to contact the old insurance company to see if there are records from this auto claim? The debt they are saying is for 2330.89 and it from a Allied Resources Recovery LLC and came from some other agecy called JJM financial. The only contact that I have had is me faxing them a dispute because I had never heard of any of these companies and that I had not purchased a car in about 8 years.What is the name of your state?What is the name of your state?
