Options with a NYS Civil Judgement

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? New York

I have had a civil judgement put against me by Citibank for my debt with them of about $2000. At this point the amount has been turned over to the NY City department of finance. They are requiring me to pay 10% of my monthly gross income to them every 3-4 weeks. If I default on paying this amount they will garnish my wages. My question is - What are my options in dealing with this debt, especially now that it is with the department of finance. Am I bound to now only deal with d.o.f. or is it possible for me to contact Citibank and let them know that I am willing to pay directly to them? I concerned that this debt has gone to far into the legal collection process for me to deal with it any other way. Thanks in advance for any information or advice you can give.

The DoF, or actually, the Sherriffs at the DoF, are who you need to deal with. In fact, since they get 5% of the amount they collect, you won't be able to try to reach an agreement with Citibank.

On the other hand, they get their 5% whether they collect the whole amount at once or whether it's paid over time. I'd call and see if you can work out an agreeable schedule. Otherwise, expect them to just take it all out of any bank accounts you may have.
