Overpayment SOL?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? PA Recently received letter from collection agency about debt to a utility for ~$1000. Calls to collection agency referred me back to utility. This is about a closed account for a property from which we moved in July 2006. They claim that they erroneously refunded us this amount in October 2006 (after we moved), and only realized this in July 2007. They then transferred this to the account as a debt (?I'm guessing to a closed account?) which resulted in it immediately going to collections; they never contacted us, and we hadn't heard from the collection agency until now. I'm upset that their mistake has resulted in us being referred to collections, but "fairness" aside, am I obligated to return this nearly 2 years later? |

| Yes, you need to return the money. I would request that the utility make sure (in writing) that this won't go as a negative on your credit...
