Payed now what?

What is the name of your state?Al

Back in Feb. my husband recieved a collection letter from RMA regarding his Sears account followed by a phone call by a representative. RMA agreed to settle the account for $3600.00. We let them do two electric withdrawls from our bank account for $100.00 each and then payed $3400.00 directly to Sears. We called RMA with the check receipt number and the representative said that they would be sending a paid off notice soon. We have yet to recieve it and now RMA has been calling about the account, stating it still has not been paid off. I have talked with 3 people who all say that the account is still showing as still owed on. One person told me that I had to call Citibank-Sears to straighten it out. I finally got a fax number and a persons name to fax all my proof to of the pay off, but now I can not get the person on the phone. How do I get RMA to acknowledge the pay off and send me a settlement letter stating that this debt has been satisfied. I am at my wits end trying to get it. We did what was instructed and are still getting grief. They can not make you pay off a bill twice can they? And I even have a letter from Sears that the payment was made to them on the date I was told to. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Simple. Send them PROOF of the payment (your receipt or cancelled check) showing that you paid the debt owner.
Then, if they still bother you... send them a 'cease and desist' letter.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

And the obvious question is: Why did you make a deal with RMA and give the money to Sears? Didn't it occur to you that you needed to pay the people with whom you made the settlement agreement?

I would imagine they are treating this the same way I treat situations like this: It isn't paid until the money is received by my company (or RMA in this case). You'll be lucky if the settlement isn't voided for non-payment. When I make settlement offers they are good for that month only.
