Paying off judgmentWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? State is Oklahoma. Looking to resolve an issue that has been hanging around for way too long. I have a judgment against me for about $1,700. I have recently contacted the attorney's firm (debt collector) to try to settle. The total due is now about $2,700. I have a couple of questions: I. Is it correct and legal for the debt collector to charge interest on the judgment amount, attorney's fees and court costs? II. What guideline would you suggest as an amount for which to settle? How is 30 to 40 percent of total balance? III. The judgment has never appeared on any of three credit bureau's reports. Will paying the balance cause this to happen? Any idea on why judgment has never been listed on reports? IV. The issue is further complicated because I no longer live in state where judgment was made. The debt collector is saying that because I no longer live in Oklahoma, it will close the file and send back to creditor. Furthermore, the debt collector is saying it cannot provide written documentation in mail because I live out of state. What is up with all this? I truly appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thanks. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? |

As for not sending written documentation.... smoke.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport! |
