pension garnishment

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

Can my state retirement pension be garnished if someone has a judgment against me? Also, can the state or feds garnish my pension for back taxes?

In California your pension is not protected against judgements, the State or the Feds.

Without more information than you’ve provided about the nature of the “state retirement pension”, you’ll want to review Code of Civil Procedure sect. 704.110. You can read it here:
