Personal loan/Investment

What is the name of your state? MA

About a year and 1/2 ago a friend(or so I thought) came to me and told me he had a good investment opportunity for me. Basically his father-in-law and brother-in-law are millionaires(really) and he could help me out**************throughout 2004, I gave a total of about $24K(paid with checks). He agreed to give me a certain % return and that I would get paid at the end of 2004 or in early 2005. I was given 6k in December and haven't gotten anything else since.

I continue to call and he keeps giving me b.s. that it's coming. I have several emails between the 2 of us on our agreement as well as several voice mails he left me. At this point I know I'm getting screwed over. If I took him to court, what are my chances of winning? What type of lawyer should I contact. He just bought a house for 750K, so he has $$. Any advise would be helpful.

Is your friend a broker? What was the investment? Was it a fund or a stock etc.? Was it some kind of bank investment that is protected by the FDIC? Did you have some kind of written agreement? Has he provided some kind of documentation on how the investment is doing? More information is needed.
