Personal property and repossession

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Iowa

My car was recently repoed. When they took it, I had some personal property in it. The company says they are charging a 15 dollar per day fee to hold my property. I know that Iowa law over rides anything in a contract or company policy. My question is, according to Iowa law, are they allowed to charge me for holding property? If not, how do I go about getting it back? And how long do I have to get it back?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
