Please Help - Cannot locate account - Trying to pay debt

What is the name of your state? California

I had 4 extremely old debts that went to collections.

This year with my company bonus I decided to pay off ALL my old debts. I wish I had researched first. I didn’t know about pay for deletes and I didn't get ANY validations. I knew they were all my debts.

However when I called Household bank (company 1), they told me my account was sold (to company 2), I was transferred to (company 2) and they told me they sold it to (company 3), I was transferred to (company 3), they told me they sold it to Wolpoff & Abramson (company 4) who says they don't have any record of it. I called (company 3) back and they told me (company 4) says that all the time, to call all the offices and that they have to have it. So I called (company 4) back and they searched everything and do not have it.

I just want to pay this final debt so it’s all gone and I can work on rebuilding my credit. I'm only 23 and my fiancé and I are trying to plan our futures. How should I handle this?

I was told I could dispute it and let experian find it for me? Is this true?

If no one wants to take your money -- dispute it with the credit bureau. If that doesn't bring the right people around, at least it's off your credit.

Oh, and do NOT spend that money until the SOL has expired on the judgment.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

So I should dispute it through the company I got my credit report from, and then just hold on to the money I was going to use to pay it?

How long does it take to dispute something? About how long until I know wether or not I will have to pay this?

On the judgment of the dispute? Or the actual debt?
