Portfolio Recovery Assoc/supposably I owe them

Hi I am from Michigan
I got a phone call in December from the above company saying I owed close to $700.00 to Mervyn's. I am pretty sure I never owned a Mervyn's card, never recieved bills from them, never knew anything about this. I wasn't sure about them so I wouldn't give them any info over the phone, just verified what they told me. They had everything. But the name on the card I supposably had was not my legal name, but my nickname. I have looked at my credit report and there is nothing on it. This was charged off in July 2000 "supposably". Marshall fields is owned by the same company as Mervyns and they just gave me a credit card last year, now would they do that if I had this past due account. I don't understand this. I have recieved a dispute form and don't know if I should fill it out which asks for more personal information.
Any suggestions?
Kathy

Do not fill out their form. Stay off the phone with them. Send them a request for debt validation: Click on this link http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/debt_validation.shtml
