Once a collection agency is awarded a judgment for a debt are they not required by law to notify that debtor by mail requesting settlement before they file a lien on that debtors residence?
|
Often the creditor does not have to file a lien, if a judgment is granted and the debtor owns real property, the lein is automatic. It works this way in my state and many others.

And once they put a silent lien on a property are they entitled to just lay low and accumulate interest from that lien without trying to actively collect the debt?
|
I doubt anyone lays low to collect interest, they would rather have the money.

Isn’t there a law against these predatory tactics.

Probably not. A consultation with a local attorney would be your best bet at this time.
