Question regarding summons and reply

What is the name of your state? Nevada.

I was served with a summons for an old debt. I was not personally served and in fact the person threw papers on my doorstep. I do not know exactly what day these were left as I was not at home but I did reply within 20 days of me getting them. I filed a response with the court and then sent a copy of this letter by registered receipt to the attorney's office. I have now received a notice from the attorney saying that I did not respond within 20 days and they are filing for judgment (this was filed with the court). I also just received a letter from them saying that they are going to obtain a judgment from me for over 15,000 (the debt, which by the way I have no idea what it is or if it is even mine) was only a little over 5,000.

Do I have any legal recourse...What can I do in this situation. Thanks for any help anyone can give me

Did you check your credit reports to see if the debt shows up there? If you find it is your debt, what type of debt is it & when was it last paid on - the SOL may have expired.

You need to talk to a attorney.

The question is exactly HOW did you answer the complaint ??
Was your answer just a letter, or was it formatted properly ? If all you did was write a letter, that is NOT a proper Answer and can be deemed as a non-answer.

Did you file your Answer with the court ?
