Unhappy

Received a letter from Palmer, Reifler & Associates.

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York, and I am 20 years old.

I was recently terminated from my job at Gamestop in June. Well the last day that I had been working I was visited by the Loss Prevention guy and the district manager of our region. There was a theft in the store and they were investigating I guess all the possible suspects. Well during our "conversation" he had mentioned that he had learned that overages in the registers had been spread around some workers. The LP guy offered me the option to pay a restitution, and I took it. Not a big deal, we ended up working out to me having to have to pay $90.

After he mentioned that he started to go into something else that occurred, and well what it was is that he was questioning me about purchasing games off customers. He asked me if I've ever done it and that it wasn't a big deal if I did, so I told the truth that I did.

After the conversation he had me write a letter stating that I understand that I am paying 90 dollars restitution and that I have purchased games off customers. I signed it, he signed it, and the district manager signed as the witness. All is said and done and they tell me that I'm currently on suspension.

A couple weeks ago I received a letter stating my date of separation from Gamestop and a form for unemployment insurance. Then today I received a letter from the "Law offices of Palmer Reifler & Associates, P.A." telling me that
"This law firm represents GameStop concerning its civil claim against you in connection with an alleged incident in their store 5496 on 5/20/2009.

Pursuant to common law and NY CLS General Obligations Law 11-105, GameStop is considering proceeding with a civil penalty claim against you

You may want to settle this matter by making payment to us in the amount of $350.00 within twenty days of the date of this letter(6/17/2009). Upon receipt of your full payment and clearance of funds, you will receive a written release of this civil penalty claim."

The restitution to Gamestop that I were to pay hasn't been paid yet and it is due today. But I have called up Gamestop's loss prevention to inform them of the late payment that I'll be making.

Hopefully you guys can give me some advice on what to do or what should be done. Thanks for reading and hopefully advising. *edit* sorry if I had a lot of junk in there. I read somewhere to put in every detail and I tried to do that as best I could.

Agreeing to pay restitution meant that you admitted that you were a thief. Yes, it is a "big deal."

You need a lawyer. NOW.

By 'buying games from the customers' you have removed those games from Game Stop's 'profits' (from reselling them). That is a form of 'theft'.

Game Stop, like any other retailer, has the legal right to recover their civil damages from you. That is the claim made by PRA.

You have the 'right' to ask them how they came up with that amount. If you accept their explanation, you really have little recourse but to pay it. If you don't, they will file a claim against you in court and get a judgment... which will be for a lot more than the claim now (filing fees, attorney fees, etc.).

There are at least 17 lawsuits (!!) pending in various courts, including the US Supreme Court, asking if Obama is a natural born citizen (as req'd by Art II, Sec 1 of the US Constitution).

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!
