Seizure of social security funds?


What is the name of your state?What is the name of your state? NY

Can social security funds that are direct deposited into a bank account be taken if the bank account gets frozen?

In general.. SSA,SSDI cannot be garnished,attached or seized unless to satisfy an IRS or child-support debt and that is limited to certain % and amounts. SSI cannot be seized even in that event . however a creditor could conceiveably attached an account where SSA funds have been deposited and probably seize the funds. however if the account is solely funded by SSA funds and you can demonstrate that to either the bank or the court than you could stop an attachment. my suggestion is to talk to your bank if you think that is, has,or is about to happen and follow their direction. You may need to get another account at a different bank and have your direct deposit switched until you can clarify this matter. The SSA has info on their website that explains garnishment and attachment policies. i do not have the link at the moment.
