Served with debt collection notice 4 years later...

What is the name of your state? ARIZONA

In August 2001, I transferred from my home state to another location overseas as a result of my civilian employment with the US government. This transfer resulted in me moving out prior to my lease expiration, and I obtained a verbal "don't worry about it" from the local apartment manager.

Today, July 2005, I got a "debt collection" notice from the corporate parent of my old complex, in the amount of $778. It did not specify exactly what it was for, however it appears to be for the early departure prior to lease termination.

What is the statute of limitations on this stuff?

Suggested action?

Thanks

Request validation of the debt. Get ready to pay it. The verbal "You're okay" is meaningless.
