Signed personal loan

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I had a written personal loan with a gentleman who has since passed away. Can his executor of will demand payment? Is debt cancelled due to death since it was a personal loan?

Yes. The executor has a duty to collect all debts owed to the estate.
