A sneaky collection agency trick! What is the name of your state? NY A collection agency sent an "offer" to settle an account by paying half (I think the original amount was about $300) After I paid the offer amount, I soon after received ANOTHER letter for the rest. Yes, they said that my account had a 'zero balance' but was not 'paid in full'. Very nice trick. Anyway, another agency is now making a similar offer. How do i avoid the kind of game playing i experienced before. |

| 1: Start replying to any *supposed* debt collectors with a debt Validation letter. Research if the debt is within the Statutes of Limitations. Read up on the Fair Credit Reporting Act. 2: use common sense . Would you just give out money to a stranger without questioning the validity of the bill? 3: Get busy learning about what rights you do have verses an original creditor. Collection Agencys have a different set of rules they must abide by . Based on some state regulations as well. 4: Learn how to negotiate and when its applicable to do so. |
