SOL, CO and DV Letter; should I?

There are a few charge-offs on my credit report that I would like to get cleared up if valid and removed if not. I wanted to request debt validation to make sure since, but here's my problem. The DOLA was in early 2000 and I haven't received any letters or anything from the collection agencies for a LOOONNNGGG time. From what I've read, the SOL for Texas is 4 years, so it seems the SOL is up. Is it smart to send them a DV letter? Scenario 1: they don't respond and after 30+5 days, I request removal of the tradeline with the CRA, or 2: they provide correct validation. If they do, the DOLA will show it's SOL; then what? They didn't contact me, so it doesn't seem like a cease and desist letter would make much sense.

I just want to make sure I don't do anything stupid...

Sounds like you're doing the right thing. If you are SURE about the DOLA then fly with the validation letter.
