sol on debt from 1989

What is the name of your state?California i recieved a letter from debt collector in reference to a credit card debt from 1989. I ask him if there was a sol on this debt and he told me tha they just recieved this debt for collection and that they have seven years to collect this debt.They are willing to settle this debt for 40% of the debt is i will respond right away. do i have to pay this debt thank you Kevin Duane

The SOL in Ca. is 4 years. The collector is full of it. They can't do anything. Send a letter saying you've no recollection of the alleged account and never contact you again.

1989 !!!???? Wow.. sounds like (S)CAMCO up to its usual tricks. 7 years to collect ?? That's complete trash. 40% on a debt that is 15 years old ?? They paid LESS than a penny on the dollar for that moldy oldy !!!
