student loan 25 yrs ago!is the name of your state? was ny,now ga for 7 yrs. Irecieved a collection notice for a student loan from nearly 25 yrs ago. I am fairly sure I paid it as my credit rating is high, item does not appear on any report and I have bought and sold 2 houses with no problems. I do not have any proof that I did pay it as so much time has passed. Are there any statute of limitations in these type of cases? Im also afraid it might be a scam. Please advise. Thanks, Deborah |

| Goverment guaranteed student loans do not have a statute of limitation. Ask the collection agency to validate the debt. You can find a sample of a validation letter at www.creditinfocenter.com/forms. If you can't prove you did pay, maybe they can't prove that you did not pay. The courtroom may be the only place this gets resolved. |

| Was it a federally-backed loan ?? There MAY be some records of the loan being paid with whoever gave you the loan. Definitely start with validation !
