Student Loans my Responsibility? What is the name of your state? California My boyfriend of 5 years and I are talking about getting married. He said if we get married 20% of my income will go towards his student loans. Is this true? I saw some posts here regarding a similar situation but not for the state of California. Any help will be appreciated. Worth noting: He filied Bankruptcy about 6 years ago and is on a hardship deferment plan. |

| And this discussion came up between talking about the flowers and what flavor the wedding cake is going to be? You are not responsible for his student loans. He will have to pay them. I dont know where he is getting the 20% figure however you cannot get a hardship deferment unless the loans are more than a certain percentage of the household income. My question I guess is does boyfriend work?

| Thanks for the info. The Boyfriend does work; he's a chiropractor (hence the hefty student loans). He was able to defer because the office he was an associate with, went under leaving him out of work for some time, thus not bringing in the percentage of income needed. Your comment regarding the cake flavors and flowers made me laugh because yes, we actually were talking about stuff like that at the time! Thank you again. |
