summons to court for debt colections

What is the name of your state? upstate NY

I have been summons to court for a debt collection. My credit is terible now due to a series of tragic events in my life I have lost pretty much everything. In turning my life around I have been forced to go back to college to get a much needed education , I have No income nothing I am barely surviving. Although I have many delinquent accounts this is the first time I have been summons to court. In addition I have no recollection nor paper work for this particular debt, the amount is unusual as well as I have never had a credit limit that high. Also I have had NO contact from this company (capitol one), no contact from a creditor in regards to this and now some law firm 100s' of miles from me have summons me to court without anything else to go on what are my rights I feel helpless and defenseless as I was blindsided with this.
