They stopped sending statements...

What is the name of your state? Illinois

An account on a cell phone (which I disputed with the cell phone company) was sent to collections after the cell phone company shut off the phone and charged me the shut off fee. It was a new contract dispute, and I was still paying them the monthly fee. Anyway, I get a notice that this collection company now has the debt and I must pay to them. Fine. I agreed to make monthly payments, and received a monthy statement from the company with a remittance slip. About four months into paying this, they stopped sending statements. I continued to send payments for three months, but never saw anything from them again. I have not made payments for the last four months.

Does the collection agency have to send statements when you are making monthly payments? If there is no communication from them (by mail or phone), what does that mean?

I am not disputing I owe anything (I disputed what I owe and the practices of the cell phone company, but obviously they didn't care), but I have NO IDEA if I am still sending to the right company or exactly how much I owe.

Thanks

Was there not a telephone number on the collection agencies correspondance?
Call them up and ask them.

Statements are for YOUR convenience only. They don't "have" to send them. Contact them - by mail, RRR. Or, by phone.
In any case, keep copies of your cancelled checks - oh yeah, you haven't been paying your debt for 4 months now...sigh
