    truck repossession

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?Kansas I recently had a vehicle repossesed that I had completed paying for and have the receipt showing so. The financer repossesed the vehicle stating that he had transfered a lien off a previous vehicle that he sold to settle the balance on that vehicle. Is that legal? Wouldnt I have to signsomething allowing him to do so? He also broke into my garage to reposses the vehicle. I do live in a small town and this guy has been getting by with similar things for years. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Report the break in and theft of your truck to the police. Call an attorney.

I have reduced my participation to very rarely, which means I'll really only look at the forums when I get a question from one of the senior members that know how to contact me personally and whom I respect greatly or I need a break.

    ### I am not a lawyer. If I were a lawyer, I would not be your lawyer. You are getting advice from anonymous people on the internet -- talk to a local attorney and/or research for yourself before taking any action. ###

I did report the break in on the night that it happened but as I said I live in a small town and the "sheriff" decided that he didnt want to file the charges with the county attorney because he thought it wasa civil matter due to the reposession. I asked him if everyone who had there garage broken into had to do their own investigating and take the guilty party to civil court? He thought I was being a smart... and just turned around and walked off. I tried to talk to the county attorney and his secretary would not even let me talk to him until the police filed the charges. Now the police wont file charges so I am wondering whether or not I would be wasting money on an attorney. I know that what he did is not morally or ethically right but I dont know where to search to find out if what he did is legal. Thank you for the response and if anyone has any ideas please let me know, all your help is greatly appreciated.
