Unknown collection on credit report

I just pulled a copy of my report and found a collection on there from Blakely Witt & Assoc. There is no amount due listed and no phone number. How can I have a collection with no amount??? I have never received anything from this company and to my knowledge have nothing that could have even been reported to a collection agency. When I looked them up on the net I read alot of horror stories about this company and don't want to get stuck paying something I don't owe (they are not in good standing with the bbb). Any advice as to what I should do 1st?

First - dispute it with the credit bureaus as 'not mine', but elaborate a bit. Give the details as listed on your report and say 'never had any such account with that number'. Just saying 'not mine' is pretty ambiguous and the more details you use, the better.

If it comes back as 'verified', send them a Debt validation letter.
