Utility Debt in FL from 98

I had an account with an electric company that went to collections in 98, it has been on my credit report since then. I recently recieved a letter from a company called: Asset Acceptance LLC, stating that my debt has been purchased from the original creditor and I now owed them the money. Are they allowed to still attempt to collect this debt? Can't I send them a C&D letter?

Any advice would be helpful! Thank you in advance.

Standard answer on expired SOL and/or validation and/or dispute letters. There are thousands of posts similar to yours on this forum so I have prepared a standard answer.

SOL (Statutes of limitation are DEFENSES to lawsuits; they do NOT provide a method to stop someone from suing you. This defense means when they sue you, you answer with the defense that it is barred by the SOL.)

Validation letter samples you can get at :

Disputes: You can write a letter of dispute to the three credit reporting agencies.

Go this website to find instructions and samples for how to dispute: http://www.creditinfocenter.com/creditreports/

Sometimes errors are easy to remove and sometimes they stick like glue. It is inexpensive to try and not difficult.

I am NOT a creditor-debtor lawyer; stand by for further help.

I am NOT vouching for the accuracy of these websites!

Am I able to write to the CRA to have this removed from my Credit Report? The are also showing the date of last activity as 2/2004, which is not correct, the date of last activity was in 98.

1.What letter can I send the Collection Agency?
2. If I can request for this to be removed from the CRA what letter should I use?

I have paid and am paying everything else off on my report and am happy to say that once this final issue is resolved, I can work my way back to better credit.

Thanks!
