I recently had a vehicle reposessed due to the loss of my job and my inability to find another one. I voluntarily turned it over and now have been served a summons to answer regarding this debt. I don't dispute the debt but I am in no way able at this point to pay anything. I have lost virtually everything and am living on the good graces of my family. I seek work daily and find small jobs here and there for people who are trying to help. Can I make payment arrangements in small amounts until such time that I find a job? Also they are asking for a response to the court with filing fees which I can't afford. What do I do? I certainly can't afford a lawyer at this point.

You're in a tough spot. You can't borrow the filing fees from one of those family members ? The filing fees can't be that much money. Anyway, if you don't file your answer, they're going to win by default..but you have little defense anyway, so even if you did answer, you'd still wind up with a judgment against you for the deficiency.

You can try calling the attorneys and explain your situation, they might work out a deal, but then again, they may not do anything if you don't give them any money right away. Since you apparently have no assets, no wages, and no money, there's nothing they can take from you - until you do get a job, THEN you can try to negotiate.
