Wage garnishment

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey
I got a call from PDM - a payday loan collection agency. She claims I owe $515 for a loan with JDM Marketing. Her info says I took the loan out on 12/11/08 and put a stop payment on 12/26/08. I have an email that confirms the loan is from 6/11/07. They had been taking $60 out of my account for over a year for a $200 loan so I did putastop payment, I believed the loan was well paid for. I couldn't find any contact info on the internet and there was no communication from them. Now today I get this rude lady telling me they are to call my emplyer to garnish my wages unless I paid the $515 today. I told I didn't have and I'm willing to set up a payment plan. I said I could start next week w/$100 she said that was unacceptable and hung up. Is there any action I can take so my wages are not garnished?

Could I file a Motion for Installment Payments? Something I found on the internet.

Was a judgement rendered against you for this debt? It is unclear from your posting.

No, as far as I know there was no judgment. They just called and said I need to pay today.

If that is the case they cannot garnish your wages, and you cannot file any kind of motion

No, as far as I know there has been no judgement. They just wanted me to pay today or they were calling my HR department. I also sent a debt verification letter, I don't deny I owe but I wanted to set up a payment plan which was denied.

Thanks. I want to talk to someone about a payment plan should continue trying to contact them? The person spoke with was very rude ans unreasonable, even yelling at me.

What do you expect You have renegged on payment arragements already, of course they aren't going to be nice to you.

Go ahead and contact them. I can't guarantee politeness.
