Wage garnishment question

What is the name of your state? Indiana
I was told by our local collection agency that I do not make enough money to have my wages garnished. I let a car go back years ago because it blew up on me and I could not afford to get it fixed. I then began to have health problems and now am on SS disability. I do work one hour a day and earn around $50.00 a week this place that I got the car from sued me and asked for a wage garnishment around 3 years ago and the judge granted the garnishment. I was under the impression a person had to earn a certain amount of money before it could be garnished or am I wrong? I am not sure if each state has their own laws for wage garnishment or not so thought I would ask. I was using the money I earned to try to pay off some small debts and after the wage garnishment I could not pay the local credit bureau in a timley fashion as the wage garnishment took the portion I was using to pay them, and when I called the credit bureau to explain that my wages were now being garnished and now I was having problems paying off all my small debts that is when I was told tmy wages are not suppose to be getting garnished so I am clueless.
Thanks
Pamm
