What to do

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Virginia
I received a letter from law office who is a debt collector on a debt I owe.The original balance is $500.00.They are stating $1100.00 now. I want to work out something to pay monthly payments but I can't afford much I'm on SS. How should I go about this?

What type of debt is it?

How old is the debt?

Do you have any assets they can come after, house, car, land?

The first step is to give them a call. Attempt to work out your payment plan with them. Your failure to repay the debt as agreed is the reason for the increase in the balance. The longer you let it go, the higher it will get.
