What Do I Do?

What is the name of your state? Maine

I didn't pay my Cingular bill it was $633 for 4 5 months now. And a collection agency calls me for its money. I wanted to pay it monthly we work out a agrement i pay 300 and the rest next month. Then he ask me for a credit card number. Is it safe to pay them on the phone? I ask if they can send me a bill or something because i didn't want to pay it on the phone. He say ''you wouldn't want it to go to the creditors''. I said ''OH NO''. Then my step dad took it and hang up the phone. So will they call again? Is it safe to pay on the phone? How badly will it affect my credit if i pay it off and miss 4 5 months of payment? I have a score 634. Do They Have a Number? First Time Happening to me Im only 19. I nO0

One alternative is to pay the bill in full.

Don't give them your credit card number.

Not paying a bill for 45 months is bad; that's 3.75 years.

You haven't paid this bill since you were 16?

You pay the collection agency.

Why would you not want to pay with a credit card? It's safe and you have a major company to go to bat for you if something were to happen.

You wouldn't pay the debt collector, so I would ask, why would you take free advice from one?

Visa or Mastercard is not going to go to bat for you despite what debtcollector said. What they will do is protect you against fraud if your visa or mastercard is abused.

Where do you pay? Call Cingular and give them your account. Tell them that you paid $300 and you want to pay the rest, who has the account now? They will tell you and more than likely give you the proper number.

If you haven't paid for 4 or 5 months, assuming the letter you got from the collection agency was the first one and you two had an agreement to pay for delete or not posting the bad debt, it shouldn't have an impact on your credit.

You negate yourself here. A 16 year old under a contractual obligation? Please... you are just silly!

Uh-ohh. A rampant-posting Voice of Authority with just enough lack of knowledge to make some factually harmful error in almost every post – even after giving the benefit of the exclusionary doubt that observations like “there is something not right” and “Something smells fishy” don’t constitute advice.
This should be interesting to watch

Small wonder the member has a “file cabinet FULL of letters with notes, phone calls I've made, phone calls I've received” presumably to and from creditors.

Caveat emptor.

Go online and pay the bill so you can print the receipt.
