what happens after


What is the name of your state?Michigan

What happens to a judgement after you file bankruptcy.

The bankruptcy discharge makes most judgments for unsecured debts null and void. With the underlying debt discharged, there is nothing for a judgment creditor to collect - unless they have perfected a lien against real property and the lien was not avoided during the bankruptcy.

If there is no lien though, the judgment is essentially dead. BUT that does NOT get rid of it with the civil court. In order to fully get rid of it, you'll have to file a motion to vacate the judgment and the reason for your motion is the discharge of the debt in your bankruptcy.
